THE 2012 GPCA NATIONAL SPECIALTY TROPHY

The 2012 GPCA National Specialty, hosted by our Garden State Great Pyrenees Club, was held in Matamoras, PA, April 25-28. There were 201 dogs entered in the show with a total of 311 entries in the various competitions. We were well-represented by 7 young dogs throughout the event. Four of the 5 were out of Ch. Pyrless No Brainer, and 3 of them shared the same dam - Pyrless On My Time. The other 2 were out of Ch. Antonio Pyristamo & Ch. Pyrless Seventh Bride. There were also 4 other "Raleigh" youngsters entered that were bred by other breeders.

BIS GPCA National Specialty

The height of any National Specialty is the Best of Breed competition. On Saturday April 28th, all of the champions, veteran class winners, and winners dog and bitch assemble in the ring at one time. A truly amazing sight to see so many Pyrs together! Then judging begins by dividing the dogs by sex, and then into smaller groups. Cuts are made, and at the very end judge Ellen VandenAvond, a breeder, owner and handler of Great Pyrenees under the PyrHaven and now Eldridge kennel names, pointed to Raleigh - GCH PYRLESS NO-BRAINER, HOF!

Raleigh's win was the culmination of our 35 years in Great Pyrenees. No higher accolade than Best-in-Show at a National Specialty, can be bestowed on a dog, his breeder, and his owners. In addition this was the fourth National Specialty win for his handler Sue Capone.

There were several "Raleigh" offspring shown in the various competitions who placed in their classes

  • Pyrless Brynjulf Don't Dare Me: 1st 12-18 month bitch; 2nd 12-18, Futurity and Sweeps
  • Pyrless Instant Karma: 1st 12-18 month dogs
  • Pyrless Catch Me if You Can: 1st 12-18 month bitch Futurity; 3rd in sweeps

  • Pyragon Night Sky Angelique on Lilac Hill: 2nd in Open bitch
  • Pyragon Mira in a Night Sky 4th in Open Bitch

However, the National wasn't all about Raleigh's kids. Two of Tonio x Millie's kids with a more European look also did well:

  • Pyrless Curley Shuffle to Lourdes: 4th in 12-18 dogs, 4th in 12-18 Futurity
  • Pyrless Victory Boogie Woogie Pic DAnie: 3rd in 12-18 Futurity
